21 Nov Minga and BUVAD’s third well is complete
In March 2013, BUVAD began construction of the third hand dug water well, equipped with a borehole pump, at Butakoola Village in Kayunga Sub County. The local village community worked hand in hand with BUVAD, and as part of their contribution participated in the hand digging exercise accessing water at 60ft. Paul Luboya, the County Water Officer (Ntenjeru County Kayunga) provided technical assistance, as did technician in training Lutaaya Joash.
This water well has now been completed and was handed over to the Butakoola community May 2nd 2013. The community elected a water user committee, whom together with the rest of the community were trained as to their responsibilities for well care, maintenance, and sustainability. BUVAD staff, Paul Luboya, and those present as part of the mechanic training 60 households are being served by this water well. Based on an average six members per household, an estimated total of 360 people are served by the water well. BUVAD has so far set up seven water wells of the kind in Kayunga Sub County in the villages of Butakoola, Gaaza and Bwetyaaba. Since the construction of these wells, about 1400 homes have so far been provided easy access to safe water.
